Hey folks! I put together this resource list to support your New Year’s healthy living efforts. I am continuously updating the list (so check back often). Here are a few of my favorite things:
If you need to push yourself:
Swing a kettlebell. This handheld gym will never break or need maintenance. Use it to improve your cardio, strength training, and flexibility. If you end up using it as a doorstop, recoup most of your investment by selling it on Craigslist. Athletic women start with a 16kg. Older or untrained women start with a 12kg. Athletic men start with 24 kg . Older or untrained go for the 20 kg.
Get on your mat. Manduka mats are the highest quality yoga mats on the market. I’ve had mine for 8 years now. Stretch, sweat, cry, or chill on your mat, it can take it all.
Buy a cute, well-fitting outfit. Athleta has been so supportive of me (especially via their sports bras that I wear daily)! They carry a range of inclusive sizes, have a great return policy, and on-the-ball customer service. Great pants and jackets too!
If you need inspiration:
Look at cool pictures of fascia: Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual and Movement Therapists: by Tom Myers. Let this reference begin (but not define) your study of fascia.
Evolve your health and movement: With a holistic and anthropological perspective, Frank Forencich’s work has inspired me for years.
Research the energy body: The Subtle Body: An Encyclopedia of Your Energetic Anatomy by Cyndi Dale. A visually stunning, cross-cultural encyclopedia — this book amazes me every time I revisit it.
If you need to relax:
Soak in a hot, essential-oil bath. Dead Sea Bath Salts (or the cheaper Epsom Salt) can relieve muscle aches and joint pains. Perfect after an intense workout. I love dōTERRA Essential Oils in my bath. Lavender calms, cedar grounds, and orange energizes.
Yoga TuneUp Massage Therapy Kit: Unearth and unravel your aches and pains with these therapy balls and accompanying guide. You will learn to be your own massage therapist with these tools developed my my friend and mentor, Jill Miller.
If you need a nutrient boost:
Drink some green goop: Vitamineral Green Powder. I’m not big on supplements, but I love this green powder. It’s made with real plants: phytonutrient powerhouses like kelp and burdock root. Also, it makes you poop like a champ!
